Even though Felton Laboratory Charter School (FLCS) is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) focused school, which requires students to utilize and sharpen their mental abilities, the administration and staff also understand the importance of physical health.
The South Carolina Department of Education recently awarded Felton Laboratory Charter School the Certificate of Recognition for fulfilling the minute requirements of the Students Health and Fitness Act during the 2022-23 school year.
FLCS's Physical Education Teacher, Mr. Steve Martin accepted the award on FLCS's behalf.
Mr. Martin started his career at FLCS in 1988 when it was Felton Laboratory School. Mr. Martin states he "enjoys being active with his students and teaching the students different life skills."
Martin shared that "each kindergarten through 1st-grade student must receive at least 90 minutes of physical activity per week in the Physical Education classroom and an additional 60 minutes with their core subject teacher. In the core subject classrooms, FLCS students usually utilize activities such as brain breaks, Go Noodle, recess, and other physical activities that require students to be actively moving."
FLCS is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) focused, tuition-free public charter school. For additional information, call 803-536-7034.
